The Battle of Yorktown
In the summer of 1781 General Cornwallis led the British army into Yorktown, Virginia. He thought the British ships could reach him with supplies. But if you look back to the battle of Saratoga you will see that the french sided with the colonists. They blockaded the shore so British ships couldn't come through. So Cornwallis surrendered in Yorktown. this may not seem as a great victory to you but it is very great because that army was one of the best armies in England. This was the last battle of the revolutionary war. There were very little fights over the next two years but nothing big. |
